Job Description

The Engineering Department at SSU is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Digital Simulation & Gaming beginning August 21, 2017.

This position will be responsible for:

  1. Teaching undergraduate courses in Digital Simulation & Gaming technologies;

  2. Advising undergraduate students;

  3. Serving on faculty and governance committees;

  4. Committing to the goals and objectives of the University’s general education program;

  5. Engaging in professional development/scholarly activities; represent the University in community service activities/events;

  6. Engage with students in out-of-classroom co-curricular activities.

Shawnee State University is the regional state university for South-Central Ohio. It is a primarily undergraduate, four-year public university with limited graduate degree programs. Enrollment is approximately 4,200 students. Shawnee State is located on the Ohio River in Portsmouth, Ohio – a small city nestled in a beautiful, rural area of Southern Ohio. Portsmouth is approximately an hour drive from Huntington, WV, and two hours from Columbus or Cincinnati, Ohio. Additional information about SSU is available at www.shawnee.edu.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for rank of Senior Instructor (non-tenure track)

  1. Bachelors of Science, with 5 years of professional experience, or

  2. Masters of Science degree at the time of hire in the area of computer science, computer engineering or engineering technology, or a closely related discipline.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track)

  1. Doctorate in Science at the time of hire in the area of computer science, computer engineering, engineering technology or closely related teaching specialization from an regionally accredited institution, or

  2. A Master of Science or closely related teaching specialization from a regionally accredited institution and three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at regionally accredited institution or five (5) years of professional experience in the area of specialization may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ph.D. at the time of hire in the area of computer science, computer engineering or engineering technology, or a closely related discipline

  2. Three (3) years of full-time teaching experience at a regionally accredited institution or five (5) years of professional experience in the area of specialization.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in at least half of the following topics: Operating system design and implementation, software engineering, implementation of network-based software, compiler design, data structures, algorithms, two and three dimensional graphics programming.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in at least half of the following programming languages: C, C++, Assembly, Python, Javascript, Java, C#, Lua
  5. Demonstrated successful teaching experience.
  6. Demonstrable experience working with software development in a commercial organization.
  7. Demonstrable experience using Game/simulation engines (Havok, Unreal, Ogre, SciLab, MatLab, Unity, Lumberyard, GameMaker).
